Throughout human history, blood has been universally recognized as a symbol of life, sacrifice, and covenant. In the spiritual realm, no symbol carries more weight, meaning, or transformative power than the Blood of Jesus Christ. For Christians, it is far more than a historical fact or a theological concept; it is the very source of redemption, the foundation of their relationship with God, and a mighty shield against the forces of evil.

The Meaning: More Than a Symbol

To understand the importance of Christ’s blood, one must first understand the problem it solved: sin. From the earliest books of the Bible, the law established that “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22). In the Old Testament, the blood of sacrificed animals served as a temporary covering for sin, a recurring ritual that pointed toward a greater, ultimate solution.

Jesus and the Blind Man Since Birth: John 9

The ninth chapter of the Gospel of John presents one of the most profound and multi-layered miracles performed by Jesus. More than a simple act of physical healing, the story of the man born blind is a deeply symbolic narrative that explores themes of spiritual insight, stubborn disbelief, and the transformative power of divine light.

Through a series of encounters, the man’s journey from literal darkness to physical sight mirrors his even more significant journey from spiritual blindness to a clear confession of faith, while those who claim to see remain in the shadows of their own prejudice. This miracle took place in the pool of Siloam, in Jerusalem.

The miracle begins when Jesus and his disciples encounter a man who has been blind from birth. The disciples, reflecting a common theological belief of their time, question whether the man or his parents sinned to cause his affliction.

Jesus, however, dismisses this line of thinking, declaring that the man’s condition was an opportunity for God’s works to be displayed. In a unique and deliberate act, Jesus spits on the ground, makes a paste of mud, and anoints the man’s eyes.

He then instructs the man to wash his face, an act of obedience that precedes the miracle. The man’s vision is restored, seeing for the first time, and immediately sparks an intense social and theological conflict, setting the stage for a series of illuminating interrogations.

They question the man, his parents, and then the man again, desperately trying to find a reason to discredit Jesus.

Their line of questioning reveals a deep-seated spiritual blindness; they have the man’s testimony and the visible proof of the miracle, yet they refuse to accept it because it challenges their authority and their predetermined rules about God. The man, in contrast, shows remarkable clarity and courage, pointing out the absurdity of their position: “If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

The story reaches its climax in the man’s personal journey of faith. Throughout the interrogations, his understanding of Jesus evolves. He first refers to his healer as “a man called Jesus.” As he defends his healing against the Pharisees, he recognizes Jesus as “a prophet.” After being excommunicated by the very people who should have rejoiced with him, he is found again by Jesus. When Jesus asks if he believes in the Son of Man, the man asks who this is.

Jesus replies, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” This is the moment of complete spiritual healing. The man’s response is immediate and absolute: “Lord, I believe,” and he worships him. He has moved from physical sight to full, spiritual insight, acknowledging Jesus’s divine nature in a way the religious leaders never could.

Ultimately, the miracle of the blind man in John 9 is a powerful parable about light and darkness. The man, once physically and spiritually blind, receives both sight and faith.

Jesus and Salvation, The Power of Grace

Jesus and salvation are two topics that go hand in hand, as many people think they can be saved by their beliefs alone. Have you ever felt it? That nagging feeling that something is just not right in the world, or even inside of you? Maybe it’s a sense of emptiness that no amount of success, money, or relationships can fill. Perhaps it’s a deep-seated feeling of guilt over things we’ve done, or a quiet fear of what comes after this life.

The Bible gives a name to this universal human condition: sin. But don’t think of sin as just a list of bad things. Think of it more like a separation—a broken relationship with God, our Creator, who loves us more than we can imagine. As it is written in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

From the very beginning, humanity chose to go its own way instead of walking with God. And that choice has echoed through every generation, leaving a void in our hearts and a stain on our souls. We try to fill it with all sorts of things, but nothing ever truly works. This is why we need salvation, and why Jesus is the only one who can provide it.

Jesus isn’t just a historical figure, a wise teacher, or a religious symbol. He is God himself, who stepped out of heaven and into our broken world. He came to do what we could never do for ourselves.

Imagine you’re standing on one side of a deep, dark canyon, and on the other side is God, and a life of perfect peace and joy. You’ve tried everything to get across. You’ve built little bridges out of good deeds, but they always fall short. You’ve tried to climb down and back up, but the chasm is too deep. This is our human condition.

Jesus is the bridge.

He lived a perfect life, the life we could never live. Then, in the ultimate act of love, He willingly went to the cross. He didn’t just die for humanity; He died for you. He took all the sin, all the guilt, all the shame of the entire world—and every single one of your personal mistakes—and took the punishment for them. His death on the cross was the payment that settled our debt.

But the story doesn’t end there. Three days later, He rose from the dead. That empty tomb is the greatest sign of hope in the universe. It proves that Jesus’s payment was accepted by God, and that He conquered sin and death forever. Jesus and salvation go hand in hand for all those who truly want to reach the holy father and eternal life.

So what does this mean for you?

Saved by grace.
We can only be saved by grace, given by God.

The Role of Grace

Salvation isn’t about earning your way into heaven. You can’t be “good enough” through your own efforts. The Bible teaches that salvation is a gift from God, given to us not because of anything we have done, but because of His undeserved kindness. This is what we call grace.

As the Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Grace is God’s active love toward those who do not deserve it. It’s the free and unearned favor of God that makes salvation possible. It’s His hand reaching out to us, while we are still separated from Him by our sin. All we have to do is reach out and receive it.

This is what it means to be saved:

  • Forgiveness: Your past is wiped clean. The guilt and shame you carry are gone.

  • A New Beginning: You are given a new heart and a new purpose. The emptiness is filled by a personal relationship with God.

  • Hope for Eternity: You no longer have to fear death. Your eternal future is secure, and you have the promise of living forever with Jesus.

Jesus isn’t just a way; He is the way. He is the bridge across the canyon. When you put your trust in Him, you are telling Him, “I can’t do this on my own. I need you to save me.” And He will. He is waiting to fill that void in your heart with His perfect, unconditional love. He is the answer to the deepest longings of the human soul, and that’s why we all need Him. A Woman Healed by Touching Jesus

The story of the woman with a flow of blood is one of the most moving and significant miracles narrated in the Gospels (Matthew 9:20-22, Mark 5:25-34, and Luke 8:43-48). This account is intertwined with the resurrection of Jairus’s daughter, demonstrating Jesus’s compassion and healing power.

The Woman’s Condition For twelve years, the woman had suffered from a flow of blood. In the Jewish society of the time, this condition made her impure according to Mosaic Law (Leviticus 15:25-27). The account of Jesus healing a leper in Luke 5:12-16 is a moving and significant passage. In it, Luke presents Jesus in one of the cities, where He encounters a man with leprosy. In that era, leprosy not only caused physical suffering but also led to profound social and religious exclusion.

The Leper’s Encounter and Plea (v. 12)

The man, “covered with leprosy,” prostrates himself before Jesus with his face to the ground. This posture is a sign of humility, desperation, and complete surrender. His plea is direct and full of faith: “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” It’s important to note that he doesn’t doubt Jesus’s power, but rather His willingness. Leprosy had made him an outcast, a person considered unclean under Mosaic law (Leviticus 13-14), which forced him to live apart from the community and to shout “Unclean, unclean!” to warn others of his presence. His situation was desolate and without any human hope.

Jesus’s Compassionate Response (v. 13)

Jesus’s reaction is astonishing and revolutionary. Contrary to the customs and laws of the time, Jesus reaches out his hand and touches him. This act is immensely significant. Touching a leper meant becoming unclean, but Jesus, by touching him, does not become defiled. Instead, He transmits His purity and healing power.

  • “Tell no one“: This is an instruction Jesus gives on several occasions. One of the reasons might be to prevent people from following him solely for the miracles, diverting from the true purpose of his ministry, which was to preach the Kingdom of God.

  • “Go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them“: This instruction is crucial. By presenting himself to the priest, the healed man could be officially declared clean, which would allow him to reintegrate into society and worship in the temple. Furthermore, this action served as a “testimony” for the priests, confirming Jesus’s power and his respect for the law.

Despite Jesus’s instruction not to tell anyone, Jesus’s fame spread “more and more.” Crowds came to hear him and be healed of their illnesses. However, in the midst of this growing popularity, Luke highlights a fundamental aspect of Jesus: “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (v. 16). This shows us Jesus’s deep dependence on his relationship with the Father, seeking solitude to pray, a constant element in his life and ministry.

The Miracle of the Paralytic at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:5-15)

This account begins with Jesus going up to Jerusalem for a Jewish festival. Near the Sheep Gate was a pool called Bethesda, which had five porticos. In these porticos lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, and paralyzed people, waiting for the water to stir. It was believed that from time to time, an angel would descend and stir the water, and the first person to step in afterward would be healed.

A Man with 38 Years of Sickness

Among the crowd was a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years. Jesus saw him lying there, and knowing the long time he had been in that condition, He asked him, “Do you want to get well?“

The sick man replied, “Sir, I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

Jesus’s Command and Instant Healing

Jesus didn’t tell him to get in the water or perform any ritual. He simply said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.“

And instantly, the man was healed. He got up, picked up his mat, and began to walk.

The Sabbath Controversy

The day this happened was the Sabbath, the Jewish day of rest. Because of this, the Jewish leaders saw the man carrying his mat and said to him, “It is the Sabbath; it is against the law for you to carry your mat.”

The man replied that the one who had healed him had told him to pick up his mat and walk. When they asked who it was, the man didn’t know because Jesus had slipped away into the crowd.

Later, Jesus found the man in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.“

The man then went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him. As a result, they began to persecute Jesus because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.
